I joined the club in 2023 but didn’t go to an event for months. I wasn’t sure my car was ready. I didn’t know anyone. Turns out, I had nothing to worry about.
The Day: It was a Sunday run through the Dandenong Ranges. We met at a servo just off Eastlink. There were 15 cars – mostly Mark IIs and IIIs. A few trailers showed up too, including a resto-in-progress.
What Happened:
- We cruised together in convoy, waving to passers-by
- Stopped at Emerald for a group photo
- Lunch at a local pub with a big carpark
- Chatted for hours about engines, parts, paint jobs
Why It Was Worth It:
- I met three blokes who live within 20 minutes of me
- Got a lead on a gearbox I’d been hunting for
- Learned about a guy who does proper 6V to 12V conversions
- Realised my car didn’t need to be perfect to be appreciated
If You’re New to the Club:
- Just show up – people are welcoming
- You don’t need to bring your car if it’s not ready
- Bring a chair, sunscreen, and your questions
Can’t wait for the next one. Might even try the club run to Bendigo next.
